In preparation for the Take Action to End Criminalization, Detention & Deportations rally on July 13, JCUA is holding a joint Shabbat dinner with the Japanese American Citizens Leage (JACL). Because Jewish and Japanese Americans share a history of coercion and detention, it’s important for us to stand together against the administration’s cruel treatment and detention of immigrants. At the dinner, we’ll work together to create the banner for the July 13 rally.

JCUA will join immigrants rights, social justice and grassroots organizing groups for the “Take Action to End Criminalization, Detention & Deportations” rally at Daley Center Plaza on July 13. We’ll be standing side-by-side with the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) behind a banner that proclaims that Jewish and Japanese Americans reject detention of any kind.

2Beth Shalom B’Nai Zaken EHC, one of JCUA’s congregation partners, hosts its annual community health fair. Services will include cancer screenings, dental exams, diabetes screenings, financial planning and more. Former JCUA board member Steven Rothschild will participate by providing free physical exams.
Join us for a JCore meeting on Tuesday, July 31 to discuss the exciting opportunities for JCUA to organize around the Fair Tax campaign. The Fair Tax referendum will be on the ballot in November 2020, and if passed, will allow the state of Illinois to tax wealthier residents at a higher rate to direct more money for public goods and services. JCUA has been a long-standing supporter of this campaign. We’re holding this meeting to discuss the impact of the referendum and to gather your ideas about how JCUA can best move forward.
