Chicago Justice Series Final Shabbat
May 31 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join Avodah, Jewish Council on Urban Affairs, Mishkan Chicago, Repair the World and Silverstein Base Hillel for our third annual Chicago  Justice series. This year we will focus on themes of safety and security through a Jewish lens: examining our relationships as Jews to law enforcement historically and today, exploring local work on police accountability, and thinking about how various identities we hold may impact how we think about our own safety.

Register below for the series, which costs $25 a person and includes dinners at all sessions. If cost is a barrier to participation we are happy to work with you – we want this space to be accessible to everyone. Email Rabbi Megan (rabbimegan@gmail.com) and we will make it work!

Session Dates

  • Thursday February 21, 6:30-8:30

  • Thursday March 28,  6:30-8:30

Juneteenth Havdalah @ Beth Shalom B'nai Zaken
Jun 29 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Juneteenth is the annual commemoration of the emancipation of Africans and African-Americans from slavery. It was first celebrated on June 19th, 1865 when news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally made its way to Galveston, Texas.

In honor of this occasion, Kol Or is excited to invite you to our second annual Juneteenth Havdalah as we celebrate our freedom with a potluck, some learning, and fun! This event is family-friendly and is open to all. Guests welcome. We will complete the evening with Havdalah (note: Havdalah will take place earlier than the official time as Shabbat ends late that night).

Date/Time: Saturday, June 29th, 6:30 pm
Place: Beth Shalom B’nai Zaken Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation

6601 S Kedzie Ave

RSVP here: bit.ly/jcuajuneteenth19.
