CVP Impact Event with Chicago Furniture Bank
JCUA works to ensure affordable and stable housing for all Chicagoans through our Community Ventures Program, and we’re proud to partner with organizations making a unique impact across the city.
One such organization is the Chicago Furniture Bank (CFB), which is providing dignity, stability, and comfort to local families transitioning out of homelessness by allowing clients to handpick an entire home’s worth of furniture for only $50. Data suggests that those living in a furnished home are 50 percent less likely to fall back into homelessness.
JCUA recently provided a zero-interest loan to the CFB to cover costs associated with the purchase and relocation to a new facility. CFB will now be able to increase its capacity from 3,000 homes furnished per year to 5,000 homes per year — making it the largest furniture bank in the country.
On August 26 at 5:00 pm, you’re invited to join us at the Grand Opening of the Chicago Furniture Bank’s new facility in Brighton Park at 4801 S Whipple St. JCUA members and supporters will have a staff-led tour of the new facility, and we’ll get to hear about the critical work the organization is undertaking to support the successful transformation of houses into homes.
