In Cook County Jail there are thousands of people locked up every day for non-violent offenses that are taken away from their families, communities, jobs and convicted of being poor before they’ve even been convicted of a crime because they can’t afford their cash bail. That ain’t right! On February 10 we introduced a bail reform legislation with Rep. Christian Mitchell that would end cash bail for non-violent offenses and stop convicting people of being poor.

Donald Trump thinks that the way to solve the violence in Chicago is to send in the National Guard and increase police presence. What our city, state and country needs are more resources – a living wage, affordable housing, healthcare for all and fully funded public education – that is what will lessen crime and violence.

We’re also going to target Judge Evans who has yet to choose a side. We’re going to ask him to choose a side. Are you on the side of Donald Trump or are you on the side of the people?
