Join JCUA on Thursday, August 19, from 7-8:15PM for a new member orientation! Sign up here.
If you are new to JCUA in the last few months and feel like you’re still finding your place (even if you’ve already had a 1:1 or been to a committee meeting), then this is the right place for you!
In this call, JCUA staff, currently involved members, and new members will come together and learn about who makes up the JCUA community and how JCUA actually works, from learning about coalitions and committees to getting familiar with some basic building blocks of organizing.
The main content of the call is the first hour; in the (optional) final 15 minutes, there will be an opportunity to go into interest-based breakouts to ask more specific questions and land on some personal next steps for getting involved.
Sign up here to join the JCUA community and our coalition partners in celebrating the hard-won passage of the Empowered Communities for Public Safety ordinance in City Council!
Join us for our monthly Housing and Economic Justice Committee meeting on Tuesday, August 24 at 6:00 pm on Zoom. There will be a quick orientation at 5:45 pm for first time attendees or anyone who wants a quick refresher on the Bring Chicago Home campaign.
Reach out to Anna Rubin (anna@jcua.org) with any questions.

JCUA’s Community Ventures Program low-interest loan fund has helped an incredible local organization, the Chicago Furniture Bank, significantly increase its capacity as well as move to a new facility. Register here to join a staff-led tour of the new facility and to hear about the critical work the organization is undertaking to support the successful transformation of houses into homes.
Join us on Friday, October 8 from 5:30-6:00 PM, when we will gather for a Shabbat Call To Action outside Rep. Brad Schneider’s office to light candles, talk about why immigration justice is a Jewish issue, and ask Rep. Schneider to champion a path to citizenship.

Bring Chicago Home is a coalition comprised of people experiencing homelessness and community, policy and direct-service organizations dedicated to addressing homelessness in Chicago. As one of the lead organizations. JCUA is pushing for a change in the Real Estate Transfer Tax to create a dedicated revenue stream that would go to housing 20,000 households over the next 10 years. Over the next 3 months, we will be gathering community support to tell the Alderpeople of Chicago that they must support this ordinance!
