Join of for our on-going series, The Torah of Organizing. In this session, which you can register for here, we’ll explore what the Torah has to say about policing. This will be an interactive, chavruta (paired-learning) event. This will be an all-levels-are-welcome space, so if you’ve never explored Torah in this way before, this is a perfect place to start. All you need is curiosity and the desire to learn with other JCUA community members!
The Kol Or Jews of Color Caucus of the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs is a space for those who identify as Jews of Color to gather, build community, and organize for systemic social change. Made up of Jews of Color from across Chicago, Kol Or plays an important role in JCUA’s work to transform our city into a more just and equitable place. You can read more about it here.

Register here to join JCUA for a series of book discussions on the Battle of Lincoln Park by Daniel Kay Hertz! This is an opportunity to learn together about the history of gentrification and activism in our Chicago neighborhoods, and talk about the implications for the political work we do now.
We’ll discuss the first part of the book, Part 1: The Invention of Old Town, on Sunday March 7 from 4-5 PM, and Part 2: The Conservation of Lincoln Park on Sunday March 21 from 1-2 PM. The series will end with a Q&A and book talk with Daniel Hertz sometime in April, date TBD.
Suggestions for where to find the book are in the registration form. If you don’t have time to read the book in the next few weeks but still would like to learn with us, listening to Daniel Hertz’s interview on Episode 44 of The Lit Review Podcast would be good background for our discussions.
This is a regular meeting of the JCUA Organizing Fellowship yearly cohort for college-aged young folks. Please reach out to Mara Wolkoff (mara@jcua.org) with questions or interest.
