Join us for our on-going series, The Torah of Organizing with Rabbi Aryeh Bernstein. In this session, we’ll explore what the Torah has to say about housing. This will be an interactive, chavruta (paired-learning) event. This will be an all-levels-are-welcome space, so if you’ve never explored Torah in this way before, this is a perfect place to start. All you need is curiosity and the desire to learn with other JCUA community members!

This year, JCUA will be offering our full-day Organizing 101 training virtually for our members. The training will be Sunday, July 11 from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm on Zoom.
We have had great success translating our full-day trainings to a Zoom context, and we are excited to bring this training to our members this summer.
The training will cover Jewish connections to community organizing; power, values, relationships, and self-interest; one-on-one training; and effective meeting facilitation.
This training is a great opportunity for JCUA members, new and veteran, to learn and practice core organizing skills, meet other JCUA members, and gain a better understanding of JCUA’s method of social change.
Spots are limited for the training, and we will be prioritizing applications from members who have not attended an Organizing 101 or Organizing Basics training with JCUA previously. But we encourage all interested members to apply!
Please reach out to Anna Rubin (anna@jcua.org) with any questions. Applications will close on Monday, June 28.
Join us for our monthly Housing and Economic Justice Committee meeting on Wednesday, July 14 at 6:00 pm on Zoom. Reach out to Anna Rubin (anna@jcua.org) with any questions.
The Kol Or Jews of Color Caucus of the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs is a space for those who identify as Jews of Color to gather, build community, and organize for systemic social change. Made up of Jews of Color from across Chicago, Kol Or plays an important role in JCUA’s work to transform our city into a more just and equitable place.
If you identify as a Jew of Color, please join us for our July meeting!
Please join us for our monthly meeting of the Community Safety Committee (formerly the Police Accountability Committee). Whether you are a regular or this is your first time, we would love to see you. Please register for the meeting here.
Our Jewish community is diverse, and some of us have stake in this issue because the color of our skin or where we live means we are more likely to face police misconduct. Some of us are compelled by this issue because of our history. Jews around the world descend from people that experienced state sanctioned violence, including pogroms, inquisitions, and genocide. Some of us feel these consequences as social workers, lawyers, and community organizers with relationships to heavily policed and systemically divested communities. As Jews, we feel we must take a stand because our tradition teaches us that all people are created in the image of God. To stay silent in the face of such injustice endangers our own humanity.
