1) Unpack our social identities and how they position us in relation to power.

32nd Ward Bring Chicago Home Action @ 32nd Ward Office
Jul 18 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

There are over 58,000 people experiencing homelessness in Chicago. That’s more than the population of many wards. And yet, Chicago lags significantly behind most of our peer n spending on homelessness services. Bring Chicago Home is a campaign that would help end this crisis by bringing in $150 million a year to provide housing and services for our homeless neighbors.

Unfortunately, 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack will not agree to cosponsor Bring Chicago Home. 19 alders have already signed on, but he refuses. Ald. Waguespack stands alone among northside progressives in opposing this legislation. This inaction endangers our homeless neighbors, and is out of step with the values of the 32nd Ward.

Join JCUA and ONE Northside and your neighbors in demanding Alderman Waguespack step up to help end the homelessness crisis and Bring Chicago Home by rallying at his office on Tuesday, July 19th at 5pm.

Tisha b’Av for Homelessness @ Oz Park
Aug 6 @ 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Tisha b’Av is a time of mourning. It’s a time to recognize and grapple with the way that our cities and homes are fragile and broken, and to envision what a more just and liberated city can look like.

The Jewish Council on Urban Affairs is hosting a Jewish community gathering in Oz Park just before Tisha b’Av to engage with how the homelessness crisis in Chicago is contributing to that brokenness here, and how we can make our city and our homeless neighbors more whole.

We’ll talk about the homelessness crisis in Chicago and learn about the Bring Chicago Home campaign which seeks to end it. We’ll also read reflections on homelessness and the book of Eicha that some JCUA leaders are putting together into a Zine, and have an opportunity to do some collective, creative visioning of what a city without homelessness

We’ll be meeting late Saturday afternoon to make an early Havdalah but allow time for folks to finish up and eat and get to shul before Erev Tisha b’Av services, if that is your practice.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Register here.
