Tisha b’Av for Homelessness @ Oz Park
Aug 6 @ 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Tisha b’Av is a time of mourning. It’s a time to recognize and grapple with the way that our cities and homes are fragile and broken, and to envision what a more just and liberated city can look like.

The Jewish Council on Urban Affairs is hosting a Jewish community gathering in Oz Park just before Tisha b’Av to engage with how the homelessness crisis in Chicago is contributing to that brokenness here, and how we can make our city and our homeless neighbors more whole.

We’ll talk about the homelessness crisis in Chicago and learn about the Bring Chicago Home campaign which seeks to end it. We’ll also read reflections on homelessness and the book of Eicha that some JCUA leaders are putting together into a Zine, and have an opportunity to do some collective, creative visioning of what a city without homelessness

We’ll be meeting late Saturday afternoon to make an early Havdalah but allow time for folks to finish up and eat and get to shul before Erev Tisha b’Av services, if that is your practice.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Register here.

Flood the 5th Ward Phone Lines
Sep 1 @ 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

Flood the Fifth Ward Phone Lines: Last month, a group of KAM Isaiah Israel members went to the office of Ald. Leslie Hairston to ask her to meet with them to discuss Bring Chicago Home — a campaign that would create $160M of new revenue for the city to spend on homelessness services. Hairston’s staff promised to get back to us, but they have not yet done so. So on Thursday, we’re hoping to get as many people as possible to call her office and urge her to sign on to this important legislation. Sign up below to commit to taking five minutes to making a call into the office.
