ABOUT JCUA

The Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (JCUA) combats poverty, racism, and antisemitism in partnership with Chicago’s diverse communities. Inspired by Jewish values, we organize a Jewish constituency to partner with communities directly impacted by systemic oppression to to build a city and state where everyone can thrive. Our work includes four central program areas: 1) Issue-based Campaigns and Community Organizing; 2) Youth Organizing and Engagement; 3) Community Development, and 4) Advancing Racial Equity. To achieve our mission, JCUA develops and mobilizes a base of individuals and institutions within the Jewish community who become engaged as members, leaders and donors in campaigns, activities, and programs.

ABOUT THE POSITION

JCUA is seeking an Operations and Finance Manager to support the day-to-day financial, personnel, and administrative operations of JCUA. This person will take ownership over core administrative functions for the organization, including human resources and operations, financial management, communication with board, staff, and vendors, and systems management. They will help to cultivate an equitable and inclusive workplace culture that enables JCUA to achieve its mission. This position will report to JCUA’s Executive Director.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Responsibilities

● Oversee day-to-day business processes; maintain close communication with accounting team and provide support to staff managers regarding financial matters
● Review financial statements created by external accounting staff to track operational activities to monitor and manage variances
Assist in preparation of annual budget in consultation with the Executive Director, staff, and Board Finance Committee
Coordinate annual audit process and serve as liaison to external auditors
Implement contracts management system to support operational requirements and track deliverables
Track and manage organizational grant reporting, and serve as point person for external accounting staff with respect to foundation income
Act as staff liaison to the Board Finance Committee

Implement systems for staff time tracking, financial recordkeeping, and additional compliance mechanisms as needed, concerning the potential creation of a JCUA 501(c)4 sibling organization

Human Resources / Operations:
● Help manage recruitment, hiring, orientation of employees, and benefits for all staff
● Review operational policies and procedures, and help to update these, as needed.
● Oversee office management; serve as liaison to JCUA’s SketchPad collaborative coworking space; act as point person for services and benefits providers
● Ensure timely and thorough evaluations of staff; support new supervisors in conducting evaluations
● Plan annual staff retreat and additional team building opportunities throughout the year
Board Responsibilities:
● Manage schedule, logistics, material preparation and dissemination for Board of Directors meetings and retreats
● Take minutes at bi-monthly Board meetings
● Track board member terms and rotations
General Responsibilities:
● Assist in developing and carrying out the implementation of strategic planning efforts and measures to track progress towards organizational goals
● Ensure that office supplies and equipment are available to meet programmatic needs
● Help organize and maintain JCUA files and documents on Google Drive; develop procedures for effective storage and archiving

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of professional experience in a non-profit/related position.
● Demonstrated experience in organizational development, personnel management, and/or financial/budget administration.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks and Google Workspace.
● Commitment to social justice, racial equity and anti-racism.
● Good listening, organizational, communication, writing, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively and independently; self-motivated and able to multitask effectively.

Helpful Qualifications:
● Experience with EveryAction CRM
● Willingness to work flexible hours to meet organizational needs, including occasional evenings and weekends.
● Familiarity with community organizing
● Active interest in helping JCUA grow.

● Salary range is $56K to $63K

LOCATION

JCUA’s office is located at Sketchpad in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago. Due to COVID-19 considerations, staff currently work Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the office with additional days remote optional, which is subject to change.
