Introduction to Balance of Care

We are excited to gather our JCUA Congregation Partners to present Kirva’s Dismantling Racism Inside Out (DRIO) Balance of Care workshop. Inspired by Valarie Kaur’s Revolutionary Love, this framework teaches that our society currently functions in a hierarchy of care, with white folks at the top of the hierarchy, Black folks at the bottom, and everyone else in between. Incorporating Jewish thought and practice, we will explore how coming into a balance of concrete acts of care for ourselves, fellows (those targeted by anti-Blackness in this case), and opponents, enables us to resist, confront, subvert and heal the the racist ideologies and behaviors we’ve internalized within ourselves and others. This workshop is designed particularly for members of JCUA’s Congregation Partnership Network and will be a great opportunity to connect with members of other congregations!
