Restorative Justice at JCUA
Holding Harm and Conflict in Community

At JCUA, we strive to remain in relationship through harm and conflict, guided by our values of accountability, solidarity, and transformation. To do our work effectively, we must believe that change is possible — both in the world and in our relationships with one another.
As part of this commitment, JCUA has developed a Harm Response System to help us navigate conflict within our community while staying true to our principles. A team of JCUA staff, members, and Board representatives has come together to design both proactive and responsive approaches to conflict resolution and harm repair. We are pleased to introduce this new system with the JCUA community.
We know this is a work in progress, and we are committed to practicing and improving our processes alongside you. We welcome feedback from our community; please email Jackie Baldwin, Director of Antiracism & Equity (jackie@jcua.org) or Mara Wolkoff, JCUA Director of Organizing (mara@jcua.org)
Community Agreements
Before we can effectively respond to harm, we must also be proactive in preventing it. To that end, we have developed Community Agreements that outline how we want to engage with one another in JCUA spaces. These agreements were shaped by input from JCUA members across all areas of our work and refined through discussions at our 2024 Restorative Justice training.
Our Process
If you have witnessed or experienced harm within the JCUA community, you can begin by filling out an Intake Form to help us understand your needs and concerns. We also invite you to use this self-reflection tool and review the list of harms for which we are prepared to respond. After the intake form is submitted, our team will follow our harms systems map to determine next steps. This team includes Jackie Baldwin, Mara Wolkoff, Rose Shapiro, Sonje Hawkins, and Talia Waxman.
