Bring Chicago Home Town Hall

August 30, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

There are 65,000 people in Chicago currently experiencing homelessness — and nearly 13,000 are children. Rising rents, gentrification, and economic instability are making it harder for residents to access stable housing. Yet the city is spending barely any money on homelessness when compared to other major cities like New York and Los Angeles. We need to do better.

Bring Chicago Home (BCH) is the long-term, systemic solution to homelessness our communities have been asking for. It would create a dedicated revenue stream for affordable housing and services — safely housing 12,000 families over the next 10 years. We can do this by raising the one-time Real Estate Transfer Tax taxes only on properties purchased for more than $1 million.

On August 30th, nieghbors from South Shore, Hyde Park, Woodlawn, Chatham ,Grand Crossing, and beyond will be coming together to learn more about Chicago’s homelessness crisis and Bring Chicago Home, and to call on their alderpeople to pass this crucial legislation. We will have speakers, music, and a training on how to facilitate conversations about important issues like homelessness and Bring Chicago Home. Snacks and childcare provided. A free dinner will be served after the town hall. Alderpeople Robinson (4th), Yancy (5th), Mitchell (7th), and Harris (8th) have been invited.

Sign up to join us on August 30th!
