Money Talks & Tu Bishvat Seder
January 25, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Money Talks is the Housing & Economic Justice Committee’s learning group about all things class, wealth, and economic justice.
Tu Bishvat is a Jewish holiday that marks the birthday of fruit bearing trees. This observance once had an essential role in ensuring that farmers were allowing the trees to rest every seven years. Today, the holiday is sometimes marked by a Tu Bishvat Seder where participants eat fruits grown in Israel, try fruit they’ve never tried before, and ritually recognize our relationship to the land that nourishes us. What can this holiday and our modern day observance of it teach us about agricultural justice in a world with less and less supply chain transparency? What does halacha, Jewish law, say about agricultural justice? Come participate in a uniquely designed Tu Bishvat seder that will explore these questions and more. Co-hosted by Rabbi Suzanne Griffel and Sam Rose.
This Money Talks event is our second ever to meet in person! You can find resources from previous Money Talks sessions and information on future Money Talks sessions at bit.ly/moneytalks-schedule
