Introducing Becca Lubow, JCUA Immigration Organizer

Hello JCUA community! My name is Becca Lubow and I’m the new Immigration Organizer.

I grew up in Pickerington, Ohio. I got my start in Jewish organizing through IfNotNow, a movement to end the occupation in Israel/Palestine, and Never Again Action, a mobilization of Jews against ICE. Many of you already know me as JCUA’s 2020-2021 Avodah fellow.

Over the course of the last year, I worked on our Fair Tax mobilization, base building in the 43rd and 44th wards, and the Erase the Gang Database campaign in the Immigration Committee. The decision to stay at JCUA was easy because I love this community and I’m proud of the work we do alongside our coalition partners. I’m excited to deepen existing relationships and get to know new members of the JCUA community as I transition into my role.

For those of you who know Anna Rubin, our previous Immigration Organizer, don’t worry—she’s not going anywhere. I’m adding capacity to the Immigration Committee while she takes on new responsibilities as our Lead Organizer. As we celebrate the beginning of a Jewish new year, I’m reflecting on how quickly JCUA is growing. In many ways it feels like I’m starting at this organization as it enters a new season, and that’s so exciting! I’m ready to build toward JCUA’s vision of a multiracial Jewish community consistently showing up in accountable relationships with directly impacted people to be a force for economic and racial justice in Chicago.

When I’m not scheming about how to win Citizenship for All, you can find me swimming in Lake Michigan, searching for deals on produce at the Logan Square farmer’s market, and at a coffee shop near you! Reach out if you’d like to find a time to get to know each other.

Becca (she/her) joined the staff in 2021 to support JCUA’s Immigration Justice Committee after finishing an Avodah year. Becca started organizing her Jewish community to fight for a world where everyone can thrive as a member of IfNotNow and co-founder of Never Again Action. Becca loves niggun circles, non-violent direct action, trying new recipes, and jumping into Lake Michigan.
